About
what we do
The Kean University Writers’ Workshop challenges individuals to become better, more productive authors. By creating goals and deadlines, providing constructive feedback, developing editorial skills, and inspiring self-motivation, the workshop encourages discipline and a solid understanding of one’s own writing process.
how we started
In Fall 2006, Kean University seniors Kevin Wright and Ray Wong got together in search of a campus organization that would help them with their creative story writing. When they found that there were none, they took an initiative to start one of their own. The Kean University Writers’ Workshop (KUWW) was loosely established by the end of 2006 with four original members.
Since then, the group has developed its unique methods for workshopping, emphasizing empathy for fellow writers and their work. In Spring 2007, members of KUWW were nominated for the Hadleson Award by the English Department of Kean University for their efforts to create a set of character/plot graphs and outlines that would help beginner and seasoned authors alike to organize and plan their stories. Today, the group continues to meet on a weekly basis and welcomes new writers to join and share their projects.
