News: Gaining Ground and Losing More

Posted in news at 7:37 pm by Ray

We’re back on the right track this week with ideas for our collaborative serial story. Each of us writers have more or less established the roles each our characters will play in Chapter 1. This week, we’re going to meet to hopefully finalize the ideas that we have fought so hard to scoop out of our creative minds last week, during the continuation of hectic and tiring schedules. In this sense, we’ve gained some ground.

What remains to be seen are our author bios, which we will try to have up by the end of this week. I will also see if I can grab a few snippets from our character sketches to give you an idea of the types of people who live in our fictional world.

It’s getting on to the end of the month, which means we’re in the frying pan doing or damnedest to flop ourselves out of it. Hopefully we won’t hit the fire on the way down.

Behind Schedule on Serial Publication (Oct Issue)

Posted in news at 11:00 pm by Ray

It looks like we’ve fallen a bit behind due to a heavy shift in schedules last week. Not all story plots for our serial publication are in yet, but we’re working on it. This week will mark the first week of actual story writing, and we will be continuing that through to Thursday next week. I’m excited to say that by next Thursday, we should have in just about all the content for our first issue of the serial. From that point on, it just just be a matter of editing, designing, and printing.

Despite our little setback, things are moving along steadily.

P.S. Watch out for those new author bios going up this week.

Meeting Recap and Update (Thur. 9/14/07)

Serial Publication #1 (Oct. Issue)

Excellent work this week, despite our hectic schedules and tired minds. The setting of our collaborative serial story has shaped to the point where we can begin thinking a little bit more in-depth about our characters, subplots, and meta-plots. But in thinking ahead, we determined a few challenges we might come across in our end-of-the-month editing phase.

The greatest of these challenges will be editing the collaborative serial chapter parts. Each of the three parts (which will be narrated by our three writers) need to meld seamlessly with each other. To make things easier for in the editing process, we may need to have a mandatory meeting next week to evaluate all our meta-plots and see how they will fit together.

Another foreseeable challenge may be finding that subplot ballance between our characters’ personal lives and the over-arching main plot. We need to make sure that there is just the right momentum in both instances. Again, we need to meet next week to discuss this.

It’s a lot of stuff for us to think about when we begin to write, but that’s what collaborative writing’s all about. If this works out, we should all get medals of some sort.

By the end of next week, we should have our brief author bios written and posted up on a new page. Goofy pictures. Something to look forward to!
